I feel that the strength in my lowerback is improving. I can hold the tension on the muscle at a higher stage. The first set with 225kg went very good and only I get a reaction in my right buttock (top of my hamstring). Therefore only 2 sets instead of 3. In my opinion a normal reaction now the strength is improving in my lowerback and upper thigh. This is the following weak spot and it needs time to get stronger. The technique is also improving. See what the recovery tomorrow brings.
Yesterday I started the 1st training for the World Powerlifting Championships for Masters. Unfortunately I started something with a false start. Sunday evening, I stung by an insect. This resulted in the training that the response of this surname in my leg. So I my training with light pounds to finish it. In the evening I went to the doctor. I'm now on antibiotics and have my leg up. Hope that the antibiotic is doing its job quickly so that I can recover soon and I can train hard for the Worlds. Since yesterday evening the antibiotics do their job for recovery my leg. So I decide to do my 2nd training for the Worlds. The antibiotics make me slower (Yes slower than normal). So I decided to do all the exercises, only with less weights. I benched 1x 140, followed by 5x5 110. Then grip shoulder exercises. From now on Wednesday a few lights sets squats and deadlift from blocks, just below the knees. This exercise felt finally good again. If I can do the coming weeks this exercise and with heavier weights. This will come in favors of my deadlift. At the European Championship I lost the match on deadlift. In previous meets I insured my place through my deadlift. Friday squats, bench press and sumo deadlifts.

With the chance that today it will be the hotest day in the Netherlands since 1944. I decided to train in the morning. Already with 26 degrees I started my training. I'm still on antibiotics for my leg, so I was curious how my training will go. I squatted 5x5 160kg and 2 sets of 3 reps with reps (190kg & 210kg). Light bench 3x8 90kg and 3x3 120kg with RAM. Because I focused to improve my deadlift the coming weeks, I added sumo deadlift to my Friday training. Today I did 3x3 150kg. Next I hope I can increase the weights a little so I can make my second step toforwards the Worlds.
Still on antibiotics (till Thursday), so I still cann't go on full power yet. Although this I'm pleased how my training went today. I made a small step forward again :-) I did 3x3 170 squat, followed with 3x3 140 blocks squats, 2x5 190kg deadlift, 3x3 150kg standing on blocks and 2x6 150kg RDL's.Tomorrow rest and Wednesday bench press, etc....
Still on antiobiotics. One day to go. Although the training went well. I bench pressed 1x145kg and 5x5 120kg. So at this stage it that good. After this trainingsweek, still 6 weeks left to train for the Worlds. Also I did some light squat to stretch my muscles for Friday ;-) Because I want to deadlift more and my lowerback is feeling better also deadlift of blocks 3x3 190kg. Friday I will do 5x5 190kg instead of 200.

After ten days antibiotics I was allowed to stop with it :-) Today was a really hard to train. Think the antibiotics have some kind of influcence on your body ;-) Although it was very hard for me. I did the following exercises, sets, reps and weights. Squat 5x5 190kg (raw), 2 sets with wraps 3x220kg and 3x230kg. Light benchpress 3x8 100kg with 3x3 130kg with the RAM. Sumo deadlifts 3x3 170kg and finished my training with 3x6 120kg RDL's. Although the step was smaller than I planned last week, I made a step forwards :-)
Since Thursday no antibiotics anymore. Today I feel that it went a little bite better. So I made the next step towards the Worlds :-) Started with 3x3 180kg squat and block squat 3x3 150kg. Deadlift went ok with 2x5 210kg. Also the other deadlift- and assistance exercises. Video will follow. I'm curious if I will be able to bench press 150kg at this stage in the program. Wednesday I will know.
Close but no sigars! Today my body wasn't stronger than last week. I think I had a slight relapse, because I had antibiotics for 10 days :-) Although I pressed almost 150kg, so it was close but nog sigars.... After that 5x3 125kg and this was hard. Followed by my other chest exercises. Also I did light squat 3x5 120kg (not recorded) and deadlift of blocks. Because my energy/power wasn't what I wanted, I stopped my training. I always say: you can always do less what your program tells you to do and not more what your program tells you to do.... Friday it will be tough.......
It was my toughest workout of the year. Gone both physically and mentally to the edge. Actually I can not remember such a training as today. I had a goal and that was to accomplish 5x5 with 210kg and I did not care how. I had to do everything to realize it. In short, another step forward to the Worlds. Think I still have to suffer just keep the relapse by using antibiotics. Luckily I squat in my suit next week. Then bench press, I dit with lighter weight to recover from the workout from Wednesday. With the aim to make a step forward next week. Next week Friday I will also start bench pres with shirt. This training I ended with sumo deadlift and again this felt better than last week. All in all a top training for myself. Now aiming to increase the weights the coming weeks, to get in shape for the Worlds. Watch the video to view the squat battle with myself.....
Although the training of Friday had a great impact on my body, today´s training went ok. I felt that my technique in squat was better and I had more power coming up. I squatted 3x3 190kg and did 3x3 160kg block squat. My legs were pump up before deadlift, so I´m pleased I deadlifted 2x3 230kg. Also the assistance exercises went ok. My energy in my final RDL was much better than the first set. This give me the knowlegde that my body is improving to recover during the work-out.
Yes, I pressed 150kg again and made my sets 5x3 130kg. A big step forward compare last week Wednesday. So step by step my bench is gaining. Also I worn my lever belt, since..... I cann't remember.... so long ago. This means that the PK-formula is working ;-) Maybe I can wear at the Worlds again, when I use my suits and shirt.... After benchpress some assistance bench work, followed by 3x5 120kg squats and deadlifting of blocks 2x2 240kg. It's still hard to put al the pressure on my lowerback. I'm still scared if my lowerback will hold. The biggest problem is the lift off. It is great that I did 2x2 240kg and this gives my confidence for next week. But before it is next week I have to put on my suits and shirt Friday :-).......

This training I had my first gear training. Although I had big expectations, the training went less good that my expectations. At the otherhand I made a step forward comparing last week Friday. I still haven't the power I normally have at the squat. The sets with 275kg were hard to make and set by set it went better. Bench press went not that good and most of all because I made some technical errors in the first and third set. So I give Michael Kalters (alias KK) the space to beat my at the Worlds on bench..... Not!!!!! Because I felt the spot on my lowerback the last two weeks, I had some problems to make the right movement on the deadlift. Second set was ok and my lowerback felt better afterwards deadlifting. During the squat I also felt the spot on my lowerback. The coming week on Monday and Wednesday a step back to give my the power to make next week Friday a step forwards again. The focus on Monday and Wednesday will the tecnique and using my breath during the exercises. When I look back the last weeks and knowing were I came from (with the antiobiotics), I'm on the move to get in shape for the Worlds step by step. Peter thank for your support today.
